A logo is not a brand. People mix them up all the time, and the confusion costs money. Let's clear it up.
What a logo is
A logo is the mark that identifies you: a symbol, a wordmark, or both. It's the thing on your sign, your invoice and your social media profile picture.
What a brand identity adds
A brand identity is the logo plus the rules that make everything you make look like it belongs together: colours, lettering, how the logo sits on different backgrounds, how photos should feel, and how your documents are laid out. It's written down so anyone you work with can follow it.
You probably need just a logo if
- You're just starting and need something clean to get going
- You're a small team and everything is made by one or two people
- Your budget is tight and you can grow into more later
You probably need a full identity if
- Several people will make things for your business
- You'll appear in many places: signage, packaging, social media, documents
- You're rebranding and want everything to feel new at once
Not sure?
Start with the logo and the basics: two or three colours and one or two fonts. You can always build the rest around it. If you tell us where your brand will show up, we'll tell you honestly what you need.
