A flyer has one job: get the right person to take one action. If yours isn't working, ask what that action is. Most of the time, something simple is missing.
The checklist
- What it is, in a few words, large enough to read from a distance
- When and where, written out in full
- One clear thing you want people to do (call, scan, come, buy)
- Contact details that actually work: check every number and spelling
- Your logo, so people remember who sent it
Less is louder
The temptation is to fit everything on. Resist it. One strong headline, a short supporting line and the details will be read. Ten things competing for attention won't.
Check how it will be seen
A flyer on a phone screen needs bigger text than one on a wall. If it will be printed, ask for the right size and a bleed (extra space at the edge) so nothing is cut off. If you're not sure, tell us where it's going and we'll set it up properly.
Proofread out loud
Read every word aloud, then ask someone else to do the same. Dates and phone numbers are where mistakes hide.
